According to research done by Harvard University, The Carnegie Foundation and the Stanford Research Institute, more than 85% of job success is based on soft skills, our personal conduct and the ability to put others at ease. This seminar is geared to the personal and professional development of recent college graduates, new hires and seasoned executives looking to enter or re-enter the job market. Emerging leaders and high achievers are able to establish credibility, trust, and strong relationships built on courtesy and respect. Competition in the business area is fierce and companies are looking for executives who can handle themnselves in an exceptional manner with clients, patients, co-workers and management. Attendees will learn modern methods and strategies taht will enable them to present themselves in a polished, professional manner.

Conducted by Maria Joyce of the Protocol School of New Jersey. Ms. Joyce is a nationally recognized etiquette and communication expert. She trains and consults with individuals representing the corporate, educational, hospitality and heath care industries. Introducing two business databases for conducting business and job-hunting

Hoover's Academic and Mergent Intellect

Both of these databases are available online at the Monmouth County Library or online. They both are based on data from Dun & Bradstreet. Mergent Intellect includes a job search function and permits downloading of up to 2000 search records. Occupational Certificates: A Fast Track To Career Success

On Tuesday, April 30, from 10am to noon, the Monmouth County Library Career Information Center will present a program on occupational certificates. In the current sluggish economy, obtaining occupational certificates may help you improve your work skills and your chances of getting a job. This program is based on information from the Winter 2012-2013 issue of the Occupational Outlook Quarterly which is free online at www.bls.gov/opub/ooq/2012/winter/home.com The program will address the following questions: What are occupational certificates? How can occupational certificates benefit me? What certificates are available for my occupation? How can I find a certificate program? Are online certificate programs a possibility? How can I find schools that are accredited to provide certifcate programs? How can I spot and avoid certifcate scams?

Do I Need A Headhunter? Working With Executive and Professional Recruiters

Tuesday, March 26, 2013 from 10am to noon at the Monmouth County Library at 1001 Rt 35 in Shrewsbury. At this Career Information Center program a panel of local executive recruiters will describe what they can do to help job-seekers find employment. How does one select a recruiter; what do they charge, and what are their success rates? Some recruiters specialize in specific industries or specific job functions. Some recruiters are retained by client companies to recruit for specific jobs and some recruiters ar paid only if a company hires an employee referred by the recruiters (Contingency recruiting firms) The major library resource for finding execuitive and professional recruiters is the "Directory of Executive and Professional Recruiters published by Kennedy Information. This directory lists recruiting firms who also provide career management services in which case the recruiting firms charges the individual for career advice. Some recruiting firms also provide temporay or contract staffing, management consulting and outplacement services.
