New and Emerging Occupations from O*NET

O*NET, Occupational Information Network from the US Department of Labor has issued a list of “New and Emerging Occupations in high growth industries” that is available through the following link

. By clicking on the occupation you get a description of the occupation including tasks, wages and employment trends. There is also an accompanying list of “Bright Outlook Occupations” which includes the new occupations and other occupations with high employment numbers.

The Monmouth County Library Career Information Center will highlight the Riley Guide at a presentation at the Eastern Branch Library on Wednesday, April 27 from 10am to noon. Nearing Retirement Age?

On Monday, March 21, 2011 from 7:00pm to 8:30pm, representatives from the Social Security Administration will conduct a pre-retirement seminar to help you plan for retirement. The program will be at the Eastern Branch of the Monmouth County Library at 1001 Rt 35 (Broad St.) in Shrewsbury, NJ.

This program is for individuals who are not currently receiving social security benefits and who are in the 50-65 age bracket. The seminar will address such questions as: deciding what age to retire, how to estimate your benefits, and how working after retirement can affect your benefits. The Career Information Center librarian will present reports from the NJ Department of Labor that identify potential employers, industries and occupations. Computer Tutorials from Job and Career Accelerator

Job and Career Accelerator has a good set of free online computer tutorials. As we all know, computers are needed both to do a job and to find a job. To find the tutorials you take the following steps
1. Go to www.monmouthcoutylib.org
2. Scroll down to "Services" and select "Career Center"
3. Click on "Guides to Employment Information"
4. Click on Job and Career Accelerator.
5. First time users must register with their Monmouth County Library Card number
6. Find the Computer Tutorials by clicking on "My Accelerator" or "Tests and Courses"
